Our Experience at NASASP 2023

We had the privilege of attending and sponsoring the NASASP conference in Boise, ID. NASASP brings together federal surplus professionals from all over the country to network, share ideas, and learn from each other and federal partners. The conference kicked off with a moving display of the Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, and Pledge of Allegiance. This is the last year for President Sam Sibert from the Idaho SASP and he provided a wonderful address to set the tone for the rest of the conference.

AssetWorks sponsored lunch on the first day and our own Sean Pugatch showcased our new Donee Portal module. Due to the way that this presentation resonated with the attendees, the planned 30-minutes became an hour-and-a-half-long exchange of questions & answers, feedback, and discussions of unique challenges many of the SASPs face.

The second day was all about learning and training from the federal partners. We heard presentations from representatives from GSA, GLA, GSA Fleet, and NASA. This day is always full of questions and discussions regarding policies, procedures, and best practices. A day of education concluded with a wonderful BBQ catered dinner at the Idaho Federal Surplus Property warehouse. It’s always a great experience when you can visit a surplus agency, and all of us were very impressed with the Idaho operation (and the food was good too)!

The final day was highlighted by 3 Donee presentations from Dan Bitton, 5366 Logistics Corp (VOSB, Illinois), Tim Flaherty, Astegos (Non-Profit, Provider to Homeless, Idaho), and Frank Bradley, Boy Scout Troop 118 (SEA, Idaho). These three individuals have unique backgrounds and stories to tell but are connected through their love for and participation in the SASP program. The items they get through the federal donation process enable them to live out their dreams. This is what the SASP program is all about and why AssetWorks is truly proud to share a small part in this program.

We wrapped up by swearing in new officers, including the new president Tim Bowles from the Michigan SASP, and the host State for next year. Good luck to all of the new officers and to Tim and his team to try and outdo what the Idaho SASP team did this year.

What a wonderful NASASP conference we had in Boise, ID! AssetWorks would like to give a special thanks to the Idaho SASP for making the experience one to remember.
