A Better and Brighter Experience at the 2019 AssetWorks Academy

In March of 2019, over 450 fleet and asset management professionals gathered in Atlanta, Georgia for the 2019 AssetWorks Academy. The Academy is a four-day technical and industry training event held annually for AssetWorks FleetFocus, Enterprise Asset Management and Field Service Solutions software customers. During the 2019 event, the Academy focused on the rapidly changing technology of the fleet management industry, and how the AssetWorks team is working hard to make each day using our software better and brighter for our customers.

After opening addresses from AssetWorks’ Gordon Smith and General Manager Rob Hallett, the Academy welcomed Mario Guzman, Director of Support Services for the City of West Palm Beach, Florida to the stage to give the keynote address.

Guzman’s keynote, titled Leading Change in 3 Easy Steps, focused on Guzman’s experiences at West Palm Beach, and how he applied different leadership tactics to increase productivity and employee morale. In addition to investing in cool uniforms for his technicians, these tactics included listening to your employees and involving them in important discussions, assessing success regularly and learning to balance.

In addition to attending the 150+ unique classes taught by AssetWorks staff, Academy attendees had access to many interactive sessions, hands-on classes and one-on-one Crystal Reports training. In the HUB computer lab, attendees could take what they learned during class and apply it to AssetWorks software right then and there, with AssetWorks staff available for one-on-one questions and advice.

The Academy’s Industry Insight sessions were panel discussions that offered attendees a chance to talk with their peers about the topics that matter most to them, including: managing utility assets, the ever-changing landscape of alternative vehicles, public and private fleet knowledge-sharing and . These sessions gave our customers a forum to discuss real-world problems with other industry professionals.

The Solution Showcase provided attendees a chance to learn about key solutions to their fleet challenges with one-on-one conversations with AssetWorks’ partners, including: NAPA IBS customized parts and inventory management, Verizon Connect, Lincoln Industrial, Orbital installation technologies, Utilimarc benchmarking services, CST fleet services, Geotab, PoolCar keyless car entry and Chargepoint electric vehicle charging.

Did you know that AssetWorks customers are some of the most creative (and competitive!) people in the fleet and asset management industry? It’s true! In addition to endless educational opportunities, the AssetWorks team also likes to challenge Academy attendees to think outside the box during the conference in order to win prizes.

The Click Game is an interactive photo scavenger hunt inside the AssetWorks Academy mobile app. In the game, attendees were prompted to take photos of specific people, places and things during the Academy and around Atlanta. The challenges ranged in difficulty– from easy ones, like taking a selfie with your favorite AssetWorks instructor, to the more challenging tasks, like posing as a Marvel superhero or building a human pyramid!

On Tuesday evening, AssetWorks hosted a very special event for the Academy attendees at the College Football Hall of Fame. After the HUB closed for the night, attendees were welcome to enter the museum to enjoy dinner, cocktails (special thanks to Orbital for sponsoring our bars!) and, of course, the many fun and interactive exhibits the museum had to offer! Academy attendees were spotted singing fight song karaoke, taping professional sportscaster videos and even kicking field goals!

After another successful AssetWorks Academy, many attendees were wondering where the conference is heading next year.

At this time, we’d like to extend our greatest thanks to everyone who attended the 2019 AssetWorks Academy. Without our customers, sponsors and staff, the Academy would not have been the success it was. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
