Earlier this month, on April 22, we celebrated Earth Day, a day where people and organizations across the world pledge and show their support for environmental protection and sustainability.
Now, you may be asking yourself, what does Earth Day have to do with fixed asset management. Well, we think a whole lot. Here are just a few of our thoughts:
Effectively managing active assets ensures that your organization is getting the most out of the assets they already own. If you can avoid unnecessary purchases, you are also avoiding the environmental impact of those purchases.
Managing the disposal of end-of-life assets is another great way to promote sustainability. This includes redistributing or donating items, recycling assets and parts of assets that can be recycled, or even upcycling assets (converting end-of-life assets into something new).
Leveraging a software system is a great way to save some trees. Rather than print and file documents like warranties or instructions, a software system may allow you to attach documents right to the asset record. Not only will you be saving the environment but also saving yourself time next time you need to find the warranty information for a piece of equipment.
