5 Questions to Ask Before Implementing a Fuel Management System

In a perfect world, you could implement a fuel management system in the blink of an eye, with no major problems with integration or training. The fleet management industry doesn’t exist in this perfect world just yet, but fuel system implementations are getting easier. When you ask the right questions, the implementation, training and follow-up processes become easier to manage.

Before implementing your fuel system, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. How will this fuel management system integrate with my current fleet maintenance software?
  2. Is manual data entry unavoidable during implementation?
  3. How should I train my drivers?
  4. How can I tell if my drivers are cheating the system?
  5. What happens after the implementation?

In the latest issue of Government Fleet magazine, AssetWorks’ Vice President of Hardware Solutions Joe Basile and Director of Fleet Services for the City of Toronto Lloyd Brierley discussed these questions, their answers and more. To read the complete article on conquering your fuel system implementation, follow this link.

Brierley and the City of Toronto recently began the multi-year initiative of replacing its outdated fuel sites with larger capacity super-sites to improve fleet and fueling operations. To read about Toronto’s experiences with the implementation process, read the complete case study here.
